Our commitment
Prairie Minds is designed to be accessible to every student, including those who use assistive technology. We target WCAG 2.1 Level AA conformance across all pages, and Level AAA for newly developed interactive exercises.
WCAG Level A is the minimum required by Alberta Education's learning resource submission guidelines. We exceed that baseline.
What works
- All navigation is fully keyboard-accessible: arrow keys on sliders, Tab across interactive elements, Enter and Space to activate controls.
- Every interactive element has a screen-reader equivalent — a description attribute, ARIA live regions, and role labels.
- Colour contrast ratios meet Level AA (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text). Most exceed 7:1.
- Colour is never the sole conveyor of information — every colour difference is paired with text, position, or font weight.
- Layouts remain readable down to 320 px wide with no horizontal page scroll, and primary controls present touch targets of at least 44 × 44 px on mobile.
- Interface transitions and animations honour the prefers-reduced-motion system preference.
- Fonts are self-hosted. No runtime network requests to third-party CDNs expose user IP addresses.
- No accounts, no tracking, no personal data collected — compliant with Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
